Calculate What DER Level Your Pet Needs

DER for a pet is the total calories its body needs to maintain a healthy weight and body condition. The average DER is determined according to age, size, and lifestyle of the pet. Do please note that the estimation is only a good reference, you should always consult and take advice from a vet for pet with emerging bodily and/or health conditions.

Estimate Result DER per day
A pet's Daily Energy Requirement (DER) can be estimated by first computing its Resting Energy Requirement (RER) and then multiplying a life stage factor

If body weight is between 2- 45 kg:
RER (kcal/day) = 30 x body weight (kg) + 70

If body weight is <2kg OR > 45 kg:
RER (kcal/day) = 70 x body weight (kg) 0.75

DER (kcal/day) = RER x life stage factor

Life stage factor varies in accordance to the pet's activity, age, and other factors.

For example, common life stage factors for a healthy cat may be in the following ranges:

Neutered Adult: ~1.2
Intact Adult: ~1.4
Growth (<12m): ~2.5
Inactive/Weight Loss: 0.8-1.0
Active/Underweight: 1.3 - 1.6
Pregnant or breast feeding: 1.6 - 2.5

If your pet has specific health conditions or illnesses, the life stage factor will need to be adjusted accordingly. Please consult your veterinarian for guidance.
